DFI Part 5 - Devices

It has been great today to be able to use, albeit quickly some of the short-cuts that students are using whilst on their Chromebooks so as to use the devices that the students are using.
I have started incorporating writing comments and reading blogs as part of my reading programme so the majority of what I have written in my google keep this week has been about this. I have therefore made the below video about making quality blog comments. Even though I teach Year 6/7 students who have been doing these for at least 3 years or more now they are not making quality blog comments or quality blog posts. This is something that would be easy to incorporate into my programme as I have started it already into my everyday programme. I have noticed that several students are just rushing through making comments but not thinking about their quality. It will be good to include this again as part of our reading to pull out the key information.
I don't use screencastify very often as I haven't worked out how to incorporate it yet myself, although I'm sure once I feel more confident I will. It was however useful to record myself as I ask this of the students so it is nice to see that it is useful but also that it can be kind of nerve racking.
Another takeaway is the idea of using Hapara as a positive more often by sharing students work through this avenue.
Overall, a productive day.

Thanks for your post Jules. It was a quick summary of the shortcuts, but is certainly something you could carry on doing with your class. It is great having the opportunity to work as we expect our students to, and to now understand some of the difficulties they face on their devices.
